As with the 1892-O and 1894-O eagles, the 1893-O is available in the lower Uncirculated grades but it becomes very scarce in properly graded MS63 and it is (currently) unavailable in grades higher than this.
This sharply struck example is original and frosty with pleasing natural medium green-gold color that shades to orange on the obverse and rose on the reverse. There are a few small ticks in the left obverse field including a single reeding mark near star two; the reverse is very choice.
There have been no 1893-O eagles sold at auction since September 2011. The last PCGS MS63 was Heritage 1/11: 7135 which went for $4600; the last two NGC’s sold for $4,888 and $4,600.
After 25+ years of grading, neither PCGS or NGC have yet to grade an 1893-O eagle higher than MS63 and most of the examples that I have seen in this grade are low-end at best.
