The 1849-C is a scarcer date in the Charlotte quarter eagle series. It is generally found in VF and EF grades but it is not often seen with natural color and choice surfaces.
This is a perfect Choice EF example with deep russet color on both sides, no serious marks and nice overall detail. The eye appeal is well above average for the date and grade.
Only four EF45′s have sold at auction since the beginning of 2011 and none have been approved by CAC. The last to sell brought $2,480.
I can’t recall having handled a nicer EF45 1849-C quarter eagle than this.
Only one has been approved by CAC in EF45 (this coin) with just four finer.
