The Closed 3 is the more common of the two varieties of 1873-S double eagle. It is readily available in circulated grades although it probably deserves to bring a premium when compared to such extremely common issues as the 1873 Open 3.
This lightly worn example shows minimal detracting marks and is nicely toned in russet and rose-gold hues.
CAC has approved four in this grade with 36 finer.
