This date is common in circulated grades but it is scarce in Uncirculated with an estimated 25-35 known, mostly in the MS60 to MS62 range.
This piece is choice for the assigned grade and it has the appearance of an MS61 or even a bit finer. It has never been dipped or brightened and it shows pleasing rich natural green-gold and orange hues on both sides.
No PCGS MS60 1855 half eagle has ever sold at auction. A PCGS/CAC MS61 sold for $2,468 as Legend 7/14: 189.
One of a nice date run of Philadelphia No Motto half eagles that I have available.
CAC has approved two in this grade with four finer.
