SCARCE 1850 HALF EAGLE
The 1850 is the scarcest half eagle produced at the Philadelphia mint between 1843 and 1858. It is not often seen in AU grades and very infrequently with natural color and choice surfaces.
This fresh-to-the-market example comes from Europe and it has extremely crusty surfaces with dirt caked into the recesses on both sides. The centers are somewhat weakly struck and this is not unusual for the issue.
Only nine AU50 1850 half eagles have sold at auction since 2000 with just two since March 2011.
