CHOICE AU 1803/2 HALF EAGLE WITH CAC APPROVAL

BD-1, R-4.

While certainly not rare, this issue's bold overdate makes it popular with collectors. The 1803/2 is available in the mid-AU range but most seen in these holders are not choice or of CAC quality.

This is an uncommonly choice example for the grade with very clean surfaces which are overlaid with natural medium reddish-gold color. There are some very light criss-cross adjustment marks at the central reverse but these are not detracting and this piece has really exceptional eye appeal. I have seen many inferior Capped Bust Right half eagles in AU55 holders.

The only AU53 1803/2 half eagle with CAC approval to sell at auction was an OGH PCGS coin which brought $12,925.

This is the best available quality for this type at less than $10,000 and it is becoming very hard to locate this type with original surfaces and natural color.

CAC has approved 6 in this grade with 72 finer.
