The 1858-C is among the more available Charlotte half eagles. Examples with natural color and choice surfaces are not easy to locate, especially in the popular VF-EF grade range.
If I were assembling an EF set of Charlotte half eagles, this coin has the "look" which I would aspire to replicate on as many pieces as I could find. It is well detailed and free of significant marks with lovely natural russet color which deepens at the borders.
The last PCGS/CAC EF45 1858-C half eagle to sell at auction realized $2,486 in a Great Collections sale.
It has become really hard to locate Charlotte half eagles of this quality at less than $3,000.
CAC has approved four in this grade with 13 finer.
