1842-D HALF EAGLE GRADED AU50 BY PCGS
Small Date variety.
1842-D half eagles are found with two date sizes. The Large Date is significantly harder to locate than the Small Date.
In my opinion, this coin looks more like a 45 than a 50, but it is notable for its 100% unmolested surfaces featuring deep green-gold color. Scattered areas of original dirt are seen on the letters on either side. A single reeding mark appears below the twelfth star. This coin is totally fresh-to-the-market and it was purchased by me along with the 1843-C $5 in PCGS/CAC EF45 which is also available in this group of new purchases.
No PCGS AU50 1842-D Small Date half eagle has sold at auction since 8/2022. In the last three years, four different EF45s have sold including one for $4,560 in 12/2024 and another for $5,040 in 11/2023.
