Dahlonega gold is certainly enjoying its current days in the numismatic spotlight, with record-breaking prices the norm for any high quality CAC approved pieces.
The 1854-D is the most common half eagle from Dahlonega. It is not easily located in AU58 with nice color and choice surfaces. This piece is very well struck except at the rim. This is the result of an improper collar being used by the mint.
There were three APRs in 2024 for the 1854-D $5 in PCGS/CAC AU58. These were as follows: $9,000, $8,700, and $11,400.
CAC has approved 16 in AU58 with only four finer.
