Its status as a one-year type, as well as a first-year-of-issue half eagle from Dahlonega, makes the 1838-D half eagle an extremely popular coin.
This coin is totally fresh to the market having last been offered for sale to collectors over 20 years ago. Its shows lovely natural yellow-gold with complimentary splashes of natural reddish-gold across the obverse; most notably at the lower portion. The obverse is choice and wholesome while there a few wispy old lines seen at the base of the reverse.
The last two APRs for non-CAC PCGS AU55s are $22,800 in 4/2025, and $20,400 in 11/2024.
No one sells more 1838-D 5s than DWN, and this is an especially nice example!
