This is the second finest known example of a date that is exceedingly rare in Uncirculated grades. Doug Winter has written the standard reference on Carson City gold and is recognized as the world's leading expert on these coins.
In 1893, the Carson City mint was closed. Half Eagles from this year are not especially scarce but this example is premium for the grade with great coloration and luster.
Everyone loves the size and history associated with Carson City double eagles and this example is choice in spite of its comparatively "low" grade of MS60
This 1843-O Large Date quarter eagle is among the finest known of the variety. Doug Winter is widely-recognized as the leading expert on New Orleans gold coinage.
There are an estimated five or six 1846-O half eagles known and Doug Winter has handled every one. If you collect choice New Orleans gold coins, you should be doing business with us!
