CHOICE PCGS/CAC EF45 1846-O HALF EAGLE
1846 is an interesting year for half eagles, with all three of the Southern branch mint issues being scarcer than their mintages suggest.
This coin is a solid AU50 or even a bit better in my opinion as it has a ton of underlying luster below rich Fairmont green-gold color. I had to pay up for this coin, but none of the No Motto half eagles with CAC approval went “cheaply” in the sale.
I think this coin is a twin to the SB 3/2023: 5026 (PCGS/CAC AU50) which sold for $4,560.
CAC has approved 9 in this grade with 17 finer.
