The Small Date variety of this issue is much scarcer than the Large Date. Until the release of a small group of these from Fairmont, this variety was almost never seen in AU grades with natural color and choice surfaces.
This is an above-average example for both the date and the grade with 100% natural russet color atop lightly marked and lustrous surfaces.
A similar PCGS/CAC AU50 brought $2,400 as Stack’s Bowers 5/2023: 5191.
CAC has approved five in this grade with 10 finer.
