CHOICE AU 1883-CC DOUBLE EAGLE
The 1883-CC is among the more available Type Three Carson City double eagles, making it a good selection for type purposes. It is available in the higher AU grades but most seen in 55 and 58 holders are either very abraded or obviously processed.
This natural medium yellow-gold example is uncleaned and attractive with more than 50% of the original mint luster seen on both sides. There are scattered ticks in the fields consistent with the assigned grade but this piece is clearly a superior example for the grade.
Only one PCGS AU55 has sold at auctioned since the beginning of 2014 and it realized $6,756 as Stacks Bowers 3/15: 465.
A nice Type Three type coin for the collector who wants to dip his toe into the CC double eagle market.
