The 1860 is considerably scarcer than the 1861 but it is much more available than the other Civil War double eagles from this mint. It does compare favorable to the 1857 and 1858 but it is more available in higher grades than these two issues.
This fresh coin was recently repatriated from Europe but it does not have the dark “Euro” look that many pieces from this source exhibit. There is a majority of the original luster showing and the surfaces are very clean. Some nice orange-gold and greenish hues add to the overall eye appeal.
At less than $3,000, this is a good value for the Type One double eagle collector.
