Variety 13-H. This variety has the date far to the left and it is the more common of the two known for the year.
The 1845-D is among the more common half eagles from this mint. It is available in most circulated grades but, as with all half eagles from Dahlonega, it is getting very hard to find examples in nice “collector grades.”
This piece has superb deep, rich natural color with very deep green-gold hues on the obverse which change to an iridescent blue at the border when the coin is tilted; the reverse has lighter but attractive color. There is a reverse scratch along the right wingtip which is old and well-blended.
This is a common Dahlonega half eagle with uncommon color and with a great deal of character.
