The 1844-O is the most available No Motto half eagle. It is common in grades up to AU55 but scarce in properly graded AU58 and rare in Uncirculated. Most of the pieces I see in the higher AU grades have been stripped-n-dipped.
This piece, which is fresh from Europe, has rich deep green-gold color on the obverse and the reverse. It is an early die state with no signs of die lapping on the stars and very sharply defined centers. There are a few contact marks on the rims where this piece was hit by other coins when it was shipped, loose, in an overseas bag. The surfaces themselves are cleaner than usual and this coin has little–if any–wear.
Heritage 1/14: 6647, graded AU58 by NGC and approved by CAC but not as original or as choice as this piece, in my opinion, just sold for $2,233.
A perfect coin for the collector who would like a single comparatively high grade No Motto half eagle from this mint.
