As a date, the 1841 half eagle is fairly scarce. As with all No Motto half eagles it is rare in Uncirculated although a small hoard appears to have been located at one time and as many as 10-15 exist, mostly in the MS62 to MS63 range. Gems are exceedingly rare and I believe that the current example is not only the finest known 1841 half eagle, it is one of the best No Motto Liberty Head half eagles of any date which I have seen or owned.

The naked-eye appearance of this remarkable coin is even more impressive than the accompanying photos. The surfaces are virtually perfect with glowing satiny luster beneath gentle golden-orange hues. The strike is 100% full on both sides and this is of those rarely-offered coins that make you exclaim, simply, “wow!!”

I have handled a number of spectacular No Motto half eagles and this is clearly among the best. It would fit into the finest half eagle set(s) comfortably or it would be ideal for a world-class type set.
