The 1890-CC half eagle is very common in circulated grades and not all that difficult to locate in the lowest Mint State grades but it is tough to find in properly graded MS62, scarce in MS63 and very rare above this.
This nicely toned example show flashes of rich natural orange-gold color on both sides with a splash of reddish gold at the upper reverse. The surfaces show soft, satiny luster and are less marked than most MS62 examples of this date which I have seen. A mark in the right obverse can be seen with the naked eye.
The last PCGS MS62 example to sell at auction was a non-CAC piece, offered as Heritage 1/13: 7247, which brought $3,055.
A nice type coin and a very good value in comparison to an MS63 of this date which, with CAC approval, could cost close to $6,000 if available.
CAC has approved 11 in this grade with 10 finer.
