WB-103. Large CC mintmark.
The Carson City mint produced half dollars in 1873 with and without arrows at the date. The latter variety was made in order to show that the weight of the half dollar had been increased from its earlier standard. The With Arrows 1873-CC half dollar is reasonably scarce in lower grades and rare above AU.
This medium gunmetal grey example is right on the cusp of grading a full EF40 and it would were it not for a bit of weakness on the E in LIBERTY. The fields are smooth and the eye appeal is excellent.
Stacks Bowers 9/11: 2921, graded VF35 by PCGS, sold for $1,725 and is the only piece in this grade offered since 2006.
An affordable example of this scarce, popular CC half dollar.
Ex Heritage 10/06: 1184 where it brought $1,507.
