The 1852-C is one of the more available Type One gold dollars from the Charlotte mint but it is still many times scarcer than the 1851-C. Properly graded AU55 to AU58 examples with nice surfaces and natural color are scarce.
This superbly toned example shows rich reddish-gold splashes on the obverse and, to a lesser extent, on the reverse. The strike and surfaces are outstanding and the often-seen mint-made reverse defect at LA in DOLLAR is missing.
No CAC approved AU55 examples of this date have been sold at auction.
A great coin for the type collector seeking a single high quality yet affordable Type One dollar from the popular Charlotte mint.
