The 1893-CC is numismatically significant as the final year in which Carson City made eagles. It is by far the rarest of the late date CC eagles and only 14,000 were struck. It is generally not seen in grades higher than AU53 to AU55 and it is quite scarce with natural color and surfaces.
This lightly worn example was in circulation for only a short period of time and it shows much of its original luster below natural orange-gold and rose color. There are some light ticks in the fields but this is a much cleaner coin than usual for the date and grade.
Only three PCGS AU55 examples have sold at auction since December 2005. The last of these, ex Stacks Bowers 5/13: 2548, brought $4,994 and it was not CAC approved.
A useful piece for the CC eagle collector.
CAC has approved three in this grade with seven finer.
