The 1891-CC is the closest thing there is to a generic issue in the Carson City double eagle series. It is common in circulated grades and available in MS60 to MS62. It becomes scarce in properly graded MS63 and it is rare above this.
This is a choice, frosty example with medium orange-gold centers contrasted by some reddish-gold splashes at the borders. There are a few stray abrasions in the fields but for the grade and issue this is a lightly marked coin with very good eye appeal.
A nice non-CAC NGC MS63 sold for $7,088 as Heritage 1/14: 6922.
PCGS has only graded three finer than this and an MS64 from this service, if available, would cost in excess of $20,000.
CAC gas approved twenty in this grade with one finer (MS65).
