The 1882-CC is the second scarcest Carson City double eagle struck in the 1880′s, after the 1885-CC. It is hard to find in the higher AU grades, especially with choice surfaces and good color, and it is rare and expensive in Uncirculated.
This gem slider has the appearance of an MS61 and it shows just the slightest amount of friction on the high spots. The obverse and reverse are both sparkling with mint luster and display natural bright orange-gold and russet colors. The surfaces are uncommonly clean and this is unusual for this date as most are seen with dense abrasions.
The last PCGS AU58 example of this date to sell at auction brought $9,400 as Heritage 1/15: 7560.
A PCGS MS61 is currently worth north of $20,000 which makes this lovely slider an excellent value for the savvy collector.
