RARE 1846-O TALL DATE HALF DOLLAR
WB-106, Tall or Large Date.
This overlooked variety is significant and rare with most seen in VF and lower grades. There are only a handful known in AU58 and I am aware of just two finer: both grades MS62 by PCGS.
This lilac-grey slider shows slightly deeper color on the reverse than on the obverse. It is uncommonly well detailed with nice surfaces and good overall eye appeal.
Only three PCGS AU58's have sold at auction since the beginning of 1999. The last brought $5,170 as HA 4/15: 5170.
An affordable example of one of the true sleepers in the No Motto Seated half dollar series.
