RARE AND DESIRABLE PCGS VF30 1794 HALF DOLLAR
O-104a (R-5).
The 1794 half dollar is an issue with strong multiple levels of demand. It is the first year of issue for the half dollar and it is the largest denomination which is available to most collectors as the 1794 dollar is a six-figure coin in any grade. Most 1794 half dollars show considerable wear and finding pieces with original surfaces is extremely challenging.
This upper-end VF example is notable for its attractive deep steel-grey color with attractive underlying pastels shadings on both sides. The surfaces are clean and appealing with no severe marks; some small adjustment marks can be seen at the right obverse edge.
The O-104 variety is slightly scarcer and this piece shows a later state of the reverse with a noticeable cud over ER in AMERICA.
There are auction records for four 1794 half dollars graded VF30 by PCGS since 2013 with a low of $18,800 to a high of $21,788.
Prices have come down in recent years for 1794 halves and this might be the exact coin to fill that gaping hole in your date or type set.
