The 1880-CC is one of the more available Carson City half eagles from the 1880′s. It is, however, scarcer than the 1882-CC and it is not an easy issue to find in properly graded AU55.
This frosty orange-gold example is well defined with slightly choicer than average surfaces. A few ticks can be seen in the obverse fields and on the cheek while the reverse is clean.
Heritage 9/13: 5195, graded AU55 by PCGS, brought $3,525 while Stacks Bowers 5/13: 2490, graded by NGC, brought the same amount. Neither coin was approved by CAC.
CAC has approved five in this grade with four finer.
