The 1844-C is one of the harder Charlotte quarter eagles to locate. It tends to come in lower grades and because of the Mint fire in 1844 which closed this facility until 1846, the 1844-C issues tend to be found in lower grades than other dates of this era.
This nice original example is well detailed for the issue with deep natural russet color on the obverse and the reverse.
The last NGC AU50 to sell at auction was Heritage 11/12: 4746 at $4,553. Only three in this grade have sold since the beginning of 2012.
