POPULAR 1870-CC SILVER DOLLAR
Coinage began at the new Carson City facility in 1870 and the silver dollar was the largest denomination struck in this metal. There were 11,578 silver dollars made of which an estimated 500-600+ are known in grades ranging from Good to MS64.
This lightly worn example is untoned on the obverse save for some wisps champagne-gold; the reverse is mostly white with a few areas of deeper toning beginning to form. The surfaces lack any detracting marks and the strike is sharper than normal for the issue.
The last PCGS AU58 to sell at auction was this exact coin; for more information see the pedigree listed below.
PCGS AU58 examples of the 1870-CC silver dollar are available at a rate of around once per year to year and a half, so this is clearly an important opportunity.
Ex Heritage 2014 ANA: 5599 where it sold for $14,688.
