The 1852-D is one f the more common half eagles from this mint, along with its counterparts the 1853-D and 1854-D. Due to its relative affordability, it is popular with type collectors.
This deeply toned example shows green-gold color and it has a two-tone “circulated cameo” appearance which is pleasing to the eye. The surfaces are choice save for an old diagonal scratch on the obverse from the field in front of the chin into the cheek.
The last NGC EF40 1852-D half eagle to sell at auction was Heritage 2/11: 4461 which realized $1,898.
At this price point, it would be hard to find a much nicer D mint half eagle than this.
