Along with the 1851, 1853 and 1861, this is the most common Type One double eagle from the Philadelphia mint. It is easy to find in AU grades but most have been dipped or if they are original they are ridled with abrasions.
This piece was recently sourced from Europe and it has superb deep green-gold color. The surfaces have a few small abrasions consistent with the grade. It would be hard to imagine a nicer 1852 double eagle in an AU53 (or even AU55) holder.
You can find less expensive coins for the grade but they won’t have the eye appeal which this 1852 double eagle displays.
