Around half of the 122 Proof quarter eagles dated 1894 have survived. Many of these are Gems or even Superb Gems which run around $35,000 to $45,000. If this blows out your budget but you would still like to own a slightly better date Proof of this design, the nice coin offered here may make sense.
Many PR63 gold coins are what we used to grade PR58 as they show dense hairlines from obvious prior cleaning(s). Not so on this coin which looks very choice to the naked eye and which shows under a 5x glass some minor lines from mishandling, not from having been cleaned.
No PR63 DCAM or UCAM 1894 quarter eagle has ever sold at auction, and there are just three records for PR63 CAM examples since early 2016.
CAC has approved this one coin in this grade/designation with 16 finer.
