Here’s another of the nice ex Fairmont CC double eagles that I purchased in the 2026 Stack’s Bowers auction.
The 1874-CC has a rarity distribution unlike any other CC $20. It is very common in grades through AU55 but properly graded AU58 coins are quite scarce, while any Mint State coin which is PCGS/CAC is going to run you close to 50k which I feel is a serious overpay on this date.
This is among the best AU58 examples of this date that I have seen. It lacks the extreme crust that some from this source show, and it has no real wear beneath lovely light rose-gold color.
A wise choice for the value-conscious connoisseur.
