The low-mintage 1884-CC eagle—with just under 10,000 struck— is seemingly fully priced in AU58 not to mention it being a $40k+ coin in PCGS MS61. Thus, a nice high-end PCGS/CAC AU55 will be the perfect grade and price point for most collectors of CC eagles.
While not designated on the holder as being from this source, it appears that this coin is ex Fairmont. It is a virgin original Gem with 100% natural green-gold color atop immaculate surfaces. The two scratches on Liberty’s neck are mint-made and are seen on every 1884-CC eagle.
The single PCGS/CAC AU55 1884-CC $10 to sell at auction for many years brought $14,400 as Stacks Bowers 2/2025: 2128.
