RARE CIVIL WAR 1861-S QUARTER EAGLE
Housed in an old green label holder.
Fewer than 100 are known and the 1861-S quarter eagle is a tough date to find in any grade. This orange-gold example has reddish overtones at the central obverse and seems to have enough body and luster to grade EF40 by today’s standards.
No PCGS VF35 has sold at auction since Heritage 6/11: 9211 which brought $1,150 and was far more worn than the piece offered here.
