AFFORDABLE LOWER GRADE 1805 QUARTER EAGLE

BD-1

Only 1,781 quarter eagles were made in 1805 and around 100-125 are known with nearly all of these out of the price range of the average collector. Early gold didn’t circulate extensively and finding a problem-free coin in a grade below EF40 is an unusual occurrence.

This well-worn example is clean and problem-free with a surprisingly pleasing appearance for the grade. All of the lettering and the details are clear while the date is sharp. The color is a nice natural green-gold and the only negatives one can find are a thin old scratch in the right obverse field and some old pin scratches on the shield and left wing.

No other 1805 quarter eagle has been graded VG08 and the lowest grade example of this date to sell at auction was a PCGS F15 with CAC approval which sold for $8,995 as Heritage 1/16: 6354. This is the only Capped Bust Right quarter eagle of any date in VG or lower to have been approved by CAC.

Here is a literally unthinkable opportunity: the chance to acquire a pleasing early quarter eagle for less than $7,000!

CAC has approved 1 in this grade with 17 finer.
