NGC AU55 1856-O $2.50 WITH CAC APPROVAL

This seemingly ho-hum date is actually scarce in the higher AU grades and very rare in Uncirculated, with just four to six known and none finer than PCGS/CAC MS62.

Somewhat bright and a bit scuffy on the obverse.

Just two CAC approved 1856-O quarter eagles in any grade have sold at auction, with one happening to be an NGC AU55. It brought $2,550 all the way back in the summer of 2016.

CAC has approved five in this grade with 13 finer.
