THE ONLY CAC APPROVED PCGS AU53 1857-D HALF EAGLE

The 1857-D is considerably more difficult to locate than the 1858-D or 1859-D half eagles, and as its low CAC population shows, this date is especially difficult to locate with choice, original surfaces.

Both sides of this pristine, original coin show natural medium russet hues with the obverse a bit richer in hue than the reverse. The strike is typical for the issue with some softness on the denticles and the radial lines but the centers are sharp. Most importantly, the surfaces are pristine with no marks of consequence.

No CAC approved AU53 examples of this date have ever sold at auction. And in the past two decades there are only three APRs for non-CAC 1857-D half eagles in AU53, with the most recent at $5,280 in 11/2023.

This coin is ideal for the date collector who is focusing on nice AU Dahlonega fives in the mid-AU range.

CAC has approved this one coin in AU53 with five finer.
