The NGN half eagles were produced in 1849 and 1850. They were made in Benicia a small town located around midway between San Francisco and the gold fields. They were struck from unalloyed native gold at the same weight standards as Federal issues. As a result, they saw considerable use in circulation and they are rare in any MS grade.
This is a clean and very choice example with natural orange-gold color and a decent strike for the issue with some minor weakness noted on the 5.
A good recent comparable APR is Heritage 2/2024: 3196 at $20,400.
Demand for scarcer issue Pioneer gold at reasonable price points remain very strong and coins like the present 1849 NGN $5.00 move quickly whenever I offer them on my site.
CAC has approved this one coin in EF45 with 10 finer.
