There were somewhere in the area of 15-20 nice 1855 eagles in the Fairmont Hoard, but just one graded higher than MS61: a sole PCGS MS62 that brought $9,600 as SB 4/2022: 5254. Four of the MS61 coins from this source were approved by CAC, and they sold for $4,800 to $5,760,
This piece has had its pedigree removed, but it is obviously the coin that sold for $5,160 as SB 11/2024: 5502.
This coin has warm green-gold color, strong underlying luster and a surfeit of detracting marks.
An affordable but scarcer No Motto type coin.
CAC has approved nine in MS61 with just a single MS62 graded finer.
