SCARCE 1841 EAGLE IN PCGS AU58
All of the Liberty Head eagles produced between 1840 and 1846 are scarce (or in the case of the 1844, exceedingly rare) in the higher AU grades, and almost impossible to locate in any grade over AU58. The 1841 is a bit of a sleeper (Zzzzzz…) in AU58, and a bona-fide rarity in MS60 and better. Eight MS 1841s have been graded by PCGS, but I doubt if more than four to six legit BU coins exist.
This piece isn’t what I’d call Fairmont Fresh (tm), but it has not been blatantly scrubbed as have many of the dozen or so 1841 eagles to earn an AU58 grade at PCGS.
No PCGS AU58 1841 $10 has sold at auction since late 2018, and there are just six APRs for this date in this grade since 2010.
