SCARCE PCGS/CAC AU55 1873-CC $20.00

My best estimate is that there are not more than three or four dozen known 1873-CC double eagles in AU55, with another three dozen or so known in higher grades (mostly AU58). Given the high price for nice AU58 1873-CC $20s, many collectors will be drawn to a nice AU55 such as this.

This lustrous piece has 100% natural surfaces with rich golden-yellow color over lustrous moderately abraded surfaces. Almost certainly a expatriated example, this piece has an excellent overall appearance and it is certainly choice for the date and grade.

Two recent APRs exist for this date in PCGS/CAC AU55. One is this exact coin (see below), while the other is for $24,000 as Stack’s Bowers 11/2024: 3204 at $24,000.

This coin is nice enough for an advanced date set of CC $20s.
