HIGH GRADE NON-SHIPWRECK PCGS/CAC MS62 1863-S $20

The majority of the highest graded 1863-S are from the S.S. Republic and Brother Jonathan shipwrecks. This example is not, and it is actually very choice for the date and grade with lovey olive-gold color and choice, frosty surfaces. A few minor scuffs a the central obverse are all that keep this coin out of a potentiality higher grade.

There have been four APRs for PCGS/CAC MS62 1863-S double eagles since 6/2020, which have brought between $21,000 and $26,400.

CAC has approved 10 in this grade with just two finer.

Ex Stack’s Bowers 11/2024: 3191 at $24,000 and earlier from Stack’s 1976 ANA sale Lot 3211. The original auction flip is included.
