CONDITIONALLY SCARCE PCGS/CAC MS64 1891

The 1891 is less scarce overall than the 1890, but it is nearly as scarce in higher grades with MS64 being about as nice as this date generally comes. PCGS has graded a dozen in MS65 and just one finer, a 65+.

This is an extremely high end coin for the grade which I think could grade MS64+ if resubmitted (obviously, I make no guarantees about this…). The creamy surfaces are very clean save for a few shallow scuffs at the lower right obverse and the color is a rich canary yellow.

Three PCGS/CAC MS64 1891 quarter eagles have sold at auction since late 2021, with prices ranging from a low of $3,120 (11/2022) to a high of $3,408 (4/2022).

CAC has approved 14 in this grade with six finer.
