This date was linked with the 1883 for years but it has lagged in price compared to its more hyped counterpart. It is actually as rare as the 1883 in MS62 and finer, and the CAC population for 1884 quarter eagles in MS62 is lower in this grade.
I could see this coin grading MS63 as it has full luster, nice color, and a lack of significant marks. This is a really nice piece overall.
No PCGS/CAC MS62 has ever sold. Two NGC/CAC MS62s have sold with one bringing $2,640 in November 2022, and the other realizing $2,585 in August 2015.
CAC has approved seven in this grade with six finer.
