A scant 1,632 1877 quarter eagles were made to circulate. This date is more available than generally acknowledged and it does not appear to have circulated extensively. It is rare above MS62.
This is a mostly reflective example with a few abrasions in the fields which are not likely the result of circulation but rather from mishandling. The light orange-gold color is attractive.
No PCGS/CAC AU58 has ever sold at auction, and only two non-CAC PCGS AU58 1877 quarter eagles have sold since 2003 with the most recent APR occurring in October 2016.
CAC has approved four in this grade with eight finer.
