The 1872-S is an underappreciated date which is scarcer in all grades than the 1872-S, and which is rare in all Mint State grades.
This is a very PQ example with nice color and strong luster. The reverse is weakly struck on the eagle’s right leg.
No PCGS/CAC AU55 example has ever sold at auction, while an NGC/CAC AU58 brought $1,440 in March 2018.
CAC has approved seven in this grade with 11 finer.
