1871-S GRADED AU55 BY PCGS/CAC
As with virtually all San Francisco quarter eagles produced during the Reconstruction Era, the 1871-S is fairly easy to locate in any circulated grade but it is scarce in the lowest Uncirculated grades and it is quite rare in MS63 and finer.
This example isn’t bright like most 1871-S quarter eagles and it shows deep greenish-gold and russet hues with dirt caked in and around the date.
No PCGS/CAC AU55 example of this date has ever sold at auction.
CAC has approved five in this grade with 13 finer.
