1870-S GRADED AU5 BY PCGS/CAC
The 1870-S is a much scarcer issue than any of the other San Francisco quarter eagles struck between 1868 and 1873.
This example is somewhat scuffy and there is a noticeable obverse scratch from the 1 in the date towards the border at 7:00.
No PCGS/CAC AU55 has ever sold at auction. There are three APRs for the 1870-S in PCGS/CAC AU58, with the most recent for $3,850 in December 2022.
CAC has approved two in this grade with 11 finer.
