1858-C GRADED AU58 BY PCGS AND APPORVED BY CAC
The 1858-C is the second-to-last quarter eagle from Charlotte and it is among the most available issue of this type from Charlotte. PCGS and NGC have combined to grade 45 in AU58 (just 11 have been slabbed by PCGS), but only five have been stickered by CAC.
This piece is noteworthy for its unmolested medium yellow-gold color and its lack of significant marks. There is some weakness of strike on the first two stars which is unusual but it hardly matters when you are contemplating a coin with so many positive attributes.
No PCGS/CAC AU58 has ever sold at auction. Only two non-CAC PCGS AU58 examples have sold since 2008 with the most recent sale in April 2017.
This would make for an ideal type coin for the collector searching for one choice, high grade Charlotte quarter eagle for a specialized set.
CAC has approved five in this grade with four finer.
